Medical Research Innovation and Atomic Sky
Atomic Sky with support from Innovation Cluster is hosting a medical innovation HackFest for Science on the Swan.
This week in Perth, from the 3rd – 5h May, sees the Science on the Swan conference take place.
This is an opportunity to meet the top people in their field; the research scientists developing technologies in partnership with industry to deliver effective and better health outcomes to the wider community. In addition to plenary lectures, there will be symposia exploring big data, precision medicine, imaging, bioengineering, 3-D printing, new technologies and omics.
Atomic Sky is delighted to be taking part and facilitating a Hack-a-Thon whilst the conference is running. We believe this to be a first of its kind in Australia. A Hack-a-Thon taking part during a conference. Especially a STEM’s focused conference.
Science on the Swan is initiated and run as part of the Western Australian Health Translation Network by all five of WA’s universities (The University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Murdoch University, Edith Cowan University and the University of Notre Dame) the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, the Telethon Kids Institute, the key teaching and research hospitals and the WA Government through the Department of Health and the Office of Science.
The 3 themes for the Hack challenges are:
BETTER FOR BURNS
To innovate burns patient management and clinical intervention for better patient outcomes.
REVISUALISING RESULTS
Innovative ideas to revisualise individual patient test results (e.g. bloods, urine, histology, pap smear). To provide more personalised medical test results to improve health and wellbeing by effecting change in behaviors through better communication and visualisation.
RETHINKING BMI
To address the problem of traditional inaccurate BMI calculation (height and weight), while taking into account body profiles and fat distribution and communicate these results in meaningful way for individuals.
